After Terri’s episode with New Age Medicine (NAM) I plunged myself into a study of the specific treatment she had gone through, which led to other medicine and so on. The more I learned the more I studied. I have ordered and read books on various treatments in NAM. I am no expert, but what I have read and compared with the word of God has convinced me even more that New Age Medicine is contrary to the word of God and should be avoided by Christians.

First of all, what do I mean by New Age Medicine?

Specifically I am referring to any medicine that is energy/spirit based. This would include all meridian based medicine, Chakra balancing and any forms thereof, as well as body dowsing (Also known as muscle testing), Homeopathy, as well as all treatments that entail a passive mind set incorporated into the treatment.

What is meridian based medicine?

Meridian based medicine is NAM that incorporates in its treatment the meridians.

Energy Psychology, Fred Gallo, pg 54 -

“It is common to think of acupuncture as being performed with needles, since the meridian acupoints can be stimulated with needles. However, the term acupuncture is a misnomer in many respects. It is perhaps better to refer to this treatment as Meridian Therapy, since there are many forms of stimulation that can be applied to affect the availability of Qi within and between meridians. In addition to the simple insertion of needles, other means of stimulation include twirling the inserted acupuncture needle (d’ai chi); exerting pressure with the fingers or various acu-aids (acupressure); rubbing on acupoints; running one’s hands in the direction of the meridian flow (running the meridian); vacuum created at the points with suctions cups; electricity;cold laser; consumption of specific herbs, vitamins, minerals, and glandular extracts; specialized exercises, such as Hatha Yoga routines; manipulation of specific muscles associated with respective meridians; burning moxa (moxibustion, which is discussed in the Nei Ching, in addition to the use of needles); and a wide variety of additional means.”

Meridians are the so called channels or pathways in which the Qi travels. These pathways run throughout the body, though I have read it stated that they run in the “subtle body”.

The following quote is from a licensed Acupuncture doctor with three college degrees, Elizabeth Reninger, about.com:Taoism -

“Like a network of rivers nourishing a landscape, the meridians are the channels through which qi flows, to nourish and energize the human body. These channels exist within the subtle body – you won’t find them on the operating table! Collectively, they form the matrix within which the physical body functions. They also act as a network of communication between the physical and the more subtle energetic bodies.”

Say Good-bye to illness, Dr. Devi Nambudripad, pg76 -

pg 76
“Many years ago, pioneer Chinese doctors and philosophers had studied these energy pathways and networks of the human body energy system by observing living people and their normal and abnormal body functions. The Chinese had learned to manipulate these energy pathways, or meridians, to the body’s advantage.

When the body is in perfect balance, it cannot experience any illness.

Chinese medical theory points out that free-flowing Chi through the meridians is necessary to keep the body in perfect balance. In the United States during the 19th century, the founder of Chiropractic medicine, Daniel David Palmer, said, “Too much or to little energy is sickness.”

Energy Psychology, Fred Gallo, pg 33 -

“Five thousand years ago, give or take a century or two, an anonymous person or persons in China discovered that the body has an energy system that follows specific pathways referred to as channels or meridians. “

That is three sources for a basic explanation of the meridians. These pathways run in the body and at times touch the skin of the body. There are twelve major meridians according to Traditional Chinese medicine. Six are Yin meridians, which means that they carry the Yin Qi, and there are six Yang meridians, which means that they carry the Yang Qi.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine when Yin and Yang are out of balance you are either sick, or you are open to getting sick. Meridian therapy seeks to balance the Qi of Yin and Yang.

Elisabeth Reninger, about.com: Acupuncture

“Acupuncture - one of the principle therapies used in Chinese Medicine - involves the insertion of hair-thin needles (at an average depth of 1/4 to 1/2 inch) into specific points along energy-channels called “meridians.” The insertion of the acupuncture needles at these specific points supports a balanced flow of qi (life-force energy) through the meridians. When the qi is flowing in this balanced way, the bodymind is able to regain, maintain and improve its health and vitality.

According to Chinese Medicine, it is a blockage or imbalance in the flow of qi that is the root cause of dis-ease. When the qi associated with a particular organ system is in a condition of excess, deficiency or stagnation, negative emotional states such as fear, anxiety, anger, sadness or worry tend to manifest. If left unresolved, this imbalanced emotional energy will begin to produce physical symptoms. Similarly, if one of the five shen
(spirits) of the organs is disturbed, the energetic imbalance produced by this disturbance will also, in time, manifest as physical dis-ease.

By affecting the flow of qi through the meridian system in specific ways, acupuncture is able to resolve spiritual and emotional imbalances before they manifest as physical dis-ease. For an acupuncturist, this is considered to be the highest form of practice: to detect imbalance at these more subtle levels, before they become physical diseases. If the disease process has already made its way into the physical body, acupuncture is able to alleviate its symptoms by resolving the energetic imbalances that are its root cause.”

So what is Qi?

In a simplified medical definition, Qi is “vital energy.” But Qi is whatever someone wants to make it. By that I mean there are many different names for Qi and there are many different definitions for Qi. In the final reality Qi is spirit.

D.D. Palmer, the founder of Chiropractic called it “innate Intelligence.” Dr. George Goodheart the founder of Applied Kinesiology refers to it as Innate Intelligence and also calls it the “force that created the structure.” The force he refers to and the innate intelligence would be the same as the Chinese Qi.

Applied Kinesiology, Dr. Robert Frost, from the Foreword, by George Goodheart -

“The body heals itself in a sure, sensible, practical, reasonable, and observable manner. “The healer within” can be approached from without. Man possesses a potential for recovery through the innate intelligence or the physiological homeostasis of the human structure.

...it allows the force which created the structure to operate unimpeded.”

Palmer believed innate intelligence was eternal and filled the universe. Here, Goodheart believes it created your body and he seems to be in complete agreement with Palmer. The physiological homeostasis simply means your body and its “energy” is balanced. This is the foundational principal for all New Age Medicine practice. It is termed energy balancing.

Energy Psychology, Fred Gallo, Pg 34 footnote -

“In India the energy is referred to as Prana, and as Ki in Japan. In a very real sense, assuming that it is real, this energy system may not be considered to be directly a part of the physical body at all, but rather a flow of energy that interacts with a number of energy fields that intersect within and surround the physical body.”

Elisabeth Reninger, about.com:Taoism

“Central to Taoist world-view and practice is qi (chi). Qi is life-force -- that which animates the forms of the world. It is the vibratory nature of phenomena -- the flow and tremoring that is happening continuously at molecular, atomic and sub-atomic levels. In Japan it is called “ki,” and in India, “prana” or “shakti.” The ancient Egyptians referred to it as “ka,” and the ancient Greeks as “pneuma.” For Native Americans it is the “Great Spirit” and for Christians, the “Holy Spirit.” In Africa it’s known as “ashe” and in Hawaii as “ha” or “mana.”

NO, IT IS NOT THE HOLY SPIRIT! She is wrong with that statement. It is the un-holy spirit. That would be the proper term. But do you notice that she is referring to it as “spirit”, or that it is referred to as spirit? You have got to get that!!! Did you know that the word, “Qi” is the chinese word for “breath”? Did you know that the definition of Ki in Japan is “energy” or “spirit”?

In Meridian therapy you are not merely dealing with neutral benign energy. You are dealing with spirit, and it is not the Holy Spirit of the Bible, it is the un-holy spirit of the god of this world. (2 Cor. 4:4, 1 Cor. 2:12)

Chinese Acupuncture and Moxibustion, first edition 1987, pg 326 - (This is the textbook published by the People’s Republic of China to train Acupuncture doctors. The Miraculous Pivot is quoted from in this textbook often. It is a collection of Chinese medicine writings that was finished around 2500 years ago. Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion is also another ancient Chinese medical writing.)

“In the process of acupuncture, no matter what manipulation it is, the arrival of qi must be achieved. In the first chapter of Miraculous Pivot, it is described that, “acupuncture therapy does not take effect until the arrival of qi.” (Emphasis added)

Acupuncturists in the past dynasties attached importance not only to the arrival of qi, but also to the activity of the
“spirit qi” in the meridians. In Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion it is said, “In case of arrival of the spirit qi, a tense feeling appears under the needle.” The first chapter of Miraculous Pivot says, “A point is the place where the spirit qi enters and flows out.” The function of acupuncture is to regulate the meridian qi. The arrival of qi is a manifestation of the normal activity of the spirit qi.” (Emphasis added)

“No matter what manipulation” (quoted from above) means by needles, touch, moxibustion, cupping or any other form of acupuncture. Qi has to arrive and it is a spirit or else the treatment is worthless!!! This would include all modern forms such as NAET, Touch for Health, Reflexology, Applied Kinesiology and any other Meridian therapy.

Did you also notice that, according to Dr. Reninger, Qi is central to Taoist world view?

Livia Kohn, The Taoist experience: an anthology - pg 133

“The Tao in its tangible form on earth is cosmic energy or qi, a term hard to define and for which “energy” is no more than a crude approximation. Qi is the vital power of the Tao at work in the world-in nature, in society, in the human body.”

pg 134
“To become aware of this flow of energy throughout the body, to learn to feel it, regulate it, and open it up to perfect smoothness is another important step in the physical practices of the aspiring Taoist. Much of this is done in meditations-the concentrated inward gaze, the increasing awareness of subtle movements within. But at the same time, the energy flow is also greatly helped by exercises-gymnastics and massages, acupuncture and moxibustion.” (Emphasis added)

Elisabeth Reninger, about.com:Taoism, Inner Alchemy, an overview:

“Inner Alchemy or Neidan – a term often used synonymously with Qigong - is the Taoist art and science of gathering, storing and circulating the energies of the human body. In Inner Alchemy, our human body becomes a laboratory in which the Three Treasures of Jing, Qi, and Shen are cultivated, for the purpose of improving physical, emotional and mental health; and, ultimately, merging with the Tao, i.e. becoming an Immortal.”

Did you read that last paragraph closely? I made the last part bold on purpose. To circulate the Qi in the human body, and all meridian therapies do just that,
is to participate in the Taoist plan of salvation. You are fellowshipping with the unfruitful works of darkness even though the word of God states, Eph. 5:11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. You are practicing and participating in a Satanic religion. You are incorporating a false god into your body and life.

In Taoism, Tao, which means; “the way” (a blasphemous designation, for the word of God states that Jesus Christ is the way in John 14:6), is undifferentiated Qi which gave birth to Yin and Yang Qi, out of which came the five elements, out of which came the ten thousand things known as the universe. In Taoism Qi created the universe! That is blasphemy!

Jesus Christ created the universe, for the word of God states,
Col. 1: 13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: 14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: 15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

~
Lu Jun Feng, Sheng Zhen Wuji Yuan Gong: A Return To Oneness (Quoted from Dr. Renenger’s article)
"Through practice I came to understand that love is the source of all - love that is unconditional and selfless: love which is totally free. Qi came into being, flowing out of unconditional love. From timelessness, from wuji, qi created the universe. From a non-definable reality, yin and yang, the world of duality, came into being. Wuji became taiji. Yin qi and yang qi blended together and gave birth to the universe. It is qi that created the universe and it is unconditional love that gave birth to qi."

To practice, use, or participate in any meridian therapy is to practice a Satanic religion and attempt to use a false god, and unclean spirits, for the purpose of obtaining healing in your physical body. To do so is to go to the gods of the land.

Deut. 6:14 Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which are round about you;
Deut. 6:15 (For the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the LORD thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth.
